A body language expert has weighed in on the alleged chemistry between Johnny Depp and his attorney Camille Vasquez.
Social media exploded with speculations that Depp and his lawyer, who has swiftly gained fame over her intense cross-examination of Amber Heard, are dating after the pair kept on hugging, exchanging smiles, and touching each other in court.
While social media users are convinced something is brewing up, TMZ suggested that the two have simply become good friends and that Vasquez’s smiles are a result of Depp’s goofy nature.
TMZ also reported sources saying the attorney is already taken while noting she has been in a relationship with a British realtor for several months.
Now, a body language expert has spoken out and claimed the warm moments could simply be part of a bigger ploy to portray the actor as a romantic person and spew doubts on Heard’s case in the process.
“When someone is trying to clear their name in court the behavior of their legal teams and the way they interact with them will send out very strongly influential non-verbal messages to a jury and, in a case this size, the rest of the world,” Judi James, a leading body language expert, told DailyMail.com after analyzing the interactions between Depp and Vasquez.
James went on to suggest that all the flirting is likely not a result of emerging romantic feelings as she insisted that linking Johnny to a “fresh, smart, fragrant, and confident-looking woman” would help the actor’s legal team “destroy” Amber’s case and make him look like a “romantic hero.”
“As a dejected, weeping Amber details her relationship with Depp in the witness box, what better weapon to wheel in to try to destroy her version of the marriage than this fresh, smart, fragrant, and confident-looking woman who is also happy to use body language to suggest she is a coyly smitten fan?” she added.
“Her behavior in court places Depp back in role as the romantic hero. For Depp’s loyal fans these dramatic rituals will seem like validation. ‘If this smart, beautiful woman thinks he is OK then maybe he is,’ will be the implied message.”
The body language expert went on to complete her analysis by saying it is probably their goal to appear flirtatious “to create the strongest non-verbal message they can.”
