Johnny Depp’s attorney became the real star during the $100 million defamation trial, gaining a massive fanbase on social media.
Depp’s fans are praising the lawyer for her impressive work defending the Rum diary actor, taking to Twitter and sharing photos of themselves wearing t-shirts with the words ‘I heart Camille Vasquez.’
One fan took to Twitter and wrote: “I am still a Johnny Depp fan, but I am ALSO now a die-hard Camille Vasquez fan #IStandWithJohnny Depp.”
Another wrote: “In a world of Amber Heards be a Camille Vasquez #JohnnyDeppvAmberHeard.”
A third person shared an edited picture of Vasquez as Thor, writing: “Rare image of Camille Vasquez, before her trial hit the day.”
Someone else said: “Camille Vasquez is the unrivaled star of the Depp trial. Her measured tone, incisive questions, total command of the facts and clear belief in her client are laudable. #TruthWins”
Interactions between the lawyer and Amber Heard became tense during the cross-examination of the trial.
Vasquez even managed to get the Aquaman actress to admit that she did not donate her $7 million divorce settlement to charity despite claiming that she already did.
After the court heard audio of the Pirates of the Caribbean star mocking a movie during an argument, Vasquez asked: “Mr. Depp got you that role in Aquaman didn’t he?”
She also accused Heard of editing a phot showing her ‘bruised’ face.
“You just edited these photographs?”
“Never,” Heard answered.
When she asked if the actress “enhanced the saturation to make your face look more red?” Heard replied: “That’s incorrect, I didn’t touch it.”
Vasquez claimed that Depp is one of Heard’s victims, mentioning her 2009 arrest after she hit her ex-girlfriend.
“You committed violence against Miss Van Reed during you relationship didn’t you?” Vasquez asked. “And it was covered in the press, isn’t that true? So Mr. Depp isn’t the only domestic partner you’ve assaulted, isn’t he Ms. Heard?”
Her questions put Heard on defensive mode.
“Okay, Miss Heard. I got the answer. Thank you. You disagree,” Vasquez said as Heard tried to explain that an image showing Depp with a black eye was edited.
Vasquez focuses on “plaintiff-side defamation suits, with additional experience litigating contract disputes, business-related torts, and employment-related claims,” her bio on the law firm’s website shows.
She is also listed as having “extensive experience handling parallel reputation management and crisis communications issues arising from these engagements.”
Vasquez was born in July 1984 to parents Marilia and Leonel Vasquez. Public records reveal that the family lives in a $1 million home in Buena Park.
According to Newsweek, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in arts, communications and political science.
