Jerry Greenfield, who is the co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, has opted to resign because the company they sold to back in 2000, Unilever, does not want them to be woke anymore.
Hours after Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from the ice cream company he founded nearly five decades back, his former business partner, Ben Cohen, shared with CNN why Jerry felt he needed to leave.
‘Jerry has a really big heart, and this conflict with Unilever was really kind of tearing him apart. So he felt like he had zero option but to resign’- the post mentioned.
Jerry is said to be incredibly sad over the news, but there is a part of him that is feeling a sense of relief that he is no longer in this intense conflict.
Earlier on Wednesday, Greenfield was seen speaking on this matter through social media, where he said he was quitting the ice cream firm, accusing the parent company Unilever of curtailing Ben & Jerry’s ability to speak out on social and political causes, which is in line with the brand’s identity.
This conflict between the co-founders and Unilever has erupted into the public view over the past few years, giving rise to several lawsuits and publicly disclosed letters.
