Speaking of her definition of luck and inspiration for the movie, Fonda suggested that “luck is preparation meeting opportunity.”

“You know, opportunity can come along and there are people who don’t know – they can’t even see it, much less seize it and use it. In a way, you have to prepare yourself to take advantage of opportunity and turn it into luck,” she said as she suggested that there’s a link between being lucky and having the right mindset.

“I also believe, and this is kind of the theme of the movie, that it’s not a binary. It’s not all good luck and bad luck and the two never shall meet.”

She continued: “They’re the same. It’s like silence makes no sense without noise, life makes no sense without death – well, good luck makes no sense without bad luck.”
