Actor James Cromwell has made headlines after supergluing himself to a Starbucks counter in New York City.
Taking to a New York City Starbucks to participate in a PETA protest, the ‘Babe’ and ‘The Green Mile’ star glued his hand to the counter while wearing a shirt that read ‘free the animals.’
Cromwell and his fellow animal rights activists then proceeded by sharing their demands as the actor slammed the coffee chain’s vegan milk upcharge.
“More than 13,000 customers have asked you, now we’re asking you. Will you stop charging more for vegan milk?” the actor said as he read out PETA’s message to Starbucks.
“When will you stop raking in huge profits while customers, animals and the environment suffer? When will you stop penalizing people for their ethnicities, their morals?”
Cromwell, who became an activist after starring in the 1995 classic Babe, went on to blast the upcharge saying it directly affects mother cows who are kept in inhumane conditions and forced to reproduce to keep up with the demand for cow milk.
While business around him continued as usual with staff apparently ignoring the actor, Cromwell added:
“The company claims to be committed to inclusion and diversity but it still discriminates against those who cannot have dairy.
“This exorbitant fee disproportionately effects people of color with a much higher rate of lactose intolerance. Up to 95 percent of Asian Americans and 80 percent of African Americans cannot digest cows milk, Starbucks makes them pay more!”
After his speech was over, the activists began chanting: “Save the planet, save the cows. Stop the vegan upcharge now!”
Eventually, the police arrived at the scene and Cromwell was forced to use his nail polish to unglue his hand. Meanwhile, the group of activists was arrested and escorted out of the business.
