Idris Elba has finally opened up about being named the Sexiest Man Alive by the People magazine.
Taking home the honorary title back in 2018 when he showed off his toned physique in a white shirt and blue jeans, the 50-year-old actor posed for a cover shot in what he described as his hardest role ever.
Recalling the photoshoot and the nervousness that came with it, the actor now told ET Canada that he was reassured by the photographer that everything would be okay.
“I said to the photographer: ‘I don’t always photograph great in pictures, this picture needs to be great,” he explained. The crew then responded by saying: “No, no, no. We’ve done this a million times, we know how to do it.”
Elba continued: “Then they do this sort of thing where they make your favorite camera angle work for the cover.”
And surely, the shots taken on that day worked their magic with Elba becoming a s*x symbol around the globe.
Despite his ever-rising fame and rumors suggesting he could be the next James Bond, Elba remains humbled by the fact that he sees himself as “just a guy that was trying to be an actor.”
“I don’t presume that everyone knows who I am, even though I’ve been acting for a long time. When I look in the mirror, it’s just a guy that was trying to be an actor. So if I walk into a restaurant in the middle of Belgium, I’m not expecting everyone to recognize me,” he added.
The interview comes after Elba spoke out about racial issues and the division they cause in an interview with Esquire only to spark a major backlash.
“I stopped describing myself as a black actor when I realized it put me in a box. If we spent half the time not talking about the differences but the similarities between us, the entire planet would have a shift in the way we deal with each other,” the actor explained at the time.
“As humans, we are obsessed with race. And that obsession can really hinder people’s aspirations, hinder people’s growth.”
After his interview, however, not everyone was pleased and many people went on to accuse Elba of “denying his blackness” and “not standing up for his people.”
Responding to the haters, Elba doubled down on his calls for unity saying: “Me saying I don’t like to call myself a black actor is my prerogative.point 256 |
