Nine people were killed and at least three more were injured after a fire broke out at a care home for the elderly in Massachusetts.
The incident took place last night at 9:50 pm and triggered a total of five alarms at the Gabriel House Assisted Living facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, which is 50 miles south of Boston, as per fire officials.
Two of the killed victims have been identified so far, and their loved ones have been informed about the tragedy.
The community’s fire chief has issued a statement on the matter, including how heartbreaking and devastating all of this is for the families involved and the entire Fall River community. He expressed his condolences on the matter to the loved ones grieving during this difficult moment in time.
Firefighters were seen arriving at the burning building to find terrified residents hanging out of the windows and screaming for help, as per officials. Investigations are being carried out to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Sources shared how the remains of some of the victims were still present inside the facility, and first responders were working hard to rescue and retrieve them.
