Sydney Sweeney is reacting to a warm reception at the premiere of her buzzy new movie.
The starlet who made an appearance in Anyone But You premiered as Christy which will hit the big screens on November 7. In this movie, she plays former professional boxer Christy Martin at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday at the Princess of Wales Theater.
Sweeney broke down in tears as the crowd got on its feet to applaud her for her great performance, which some critics were good enough to grant her an Oscar.
The standing ovation was something new for the star that she’s not accustomed to seeing. The actress was joined onstage by her fellow filmmakers as well as a very emotional Martin and Martin’s wife, Lisa Holewyne. Martin soaked in all the credit while holding the star’s dog, whose name is Champ.
Christy is directed by David Michod, who co-wrote it with Katherine Fugate and Mirrah Foulkes. In July, Black Bear Pictures shared the first official clip of Sweeney as Martin ahead of the celebrated boxer’s biopic debut in Toronto.
