Tragic reports are speaking about the death of a 77-year-old female heart patient.

According to sources from local media outlets, the woman from the UK died during her heart surgery procedure when the hospital lost power for 10 minutes, and even the backup generator failed to run during that process.

Jean Dye was believed to be undergoing a procedure for cardiac disease at Scunthorpe General Hospital in England when the outage took place in the middle of surgery.

This cites results from a newly released coroner’s inquest. Doctors were believed to have put in stents in Dye’s arteries when the loss of power left surgeons with such limited choices to provide the necessary remedial treatment.

The Emergency Power Off circuit was activated when the blackout took place, and that overrode the backup electrical supply, as shared by the new report.

Surgeons were literally left in the dark as to the cause of the outage and were therefore forced to wait for the engineer to reset the whole circuit during the most critical operating juncture on that day.

After a span of 10 minutes inside the dark operating room, the patient passed away due to iatrogenic dissection, which is the name given to a tear involving one artery that arose during that medical event, the report from the coroner’s office mentioned.

The report detailed more about how the power was restored, but the delay was a critical factor in the patient’s loss of life.
