MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd has reportedly been fired after making some comments regarding the death of Charlie Kick.
Kirk, who was a right-wing political commentator and MAGA activist, was shot dead at a campus event while answering a question by one of the students. He was only 31.
After his death, 64-year-old Dowd was seen appearing on MSNBC Live with Katy Tur, where the host asked him about the environment in which a shooting like this takes place. Instead of showing sympathy for the moment, he spoke about how Kirk was one of the most divisive young figures out there, who kept on pushing hate speech that was aimed at certain groups.
‘And I always go back to hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, and hateful actions. And I think that is the environment that we are all living in’- he continued, leaving the host and viewers in shock.
It didn’t take long for his words to go viral online amid strong criticism and backlash. Within no time, he was fired and MSNBC was forced to issue an apology on his behalf.
Dowd then shared his own apology to his BlueSky account in writing: ‘My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Charlie Kirk. I apologize for my tone and words, as that was never my intention’- he concluded.
