The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s surprise walkabout with the Prince and Princess of Wales was delayed by almost an hour as Harry and Meghan had to change into formal mourning attire, NBC’s Daisy McAndrew claimed.
Speaking on US TV, the royal commentator said that the couple had to ‘quickly go and get changed’ to meet well-wishers gathering outside Windsor on Saturday afternoon.
She also said that she believed the former Suits star needed to have her ‘hair and makeup’ done as the walkabout and that the royal walkabout had been ‘scheduled to be nearly an hour’ before they arrived.
Brothers William and Harry have a strained relationship but their grandmother’s heartbreaking death saw them set their differences aside.
The Prince of Wales reportedly invited the Duke of Sussex by sending him a text message, asking him if he and Meghan would like to join him and his wife Kate Middleton in meeting mourners and inspecting floral tributes laid outside Windsor Castle.
Sources said William thought it was an “important show of unity.”
“Interestingly, the reason that the walkabout was so late – it was scheduled to be nearly an hour before they actually came – was because of course Harry and Meghan had to go and get changed,” Ms. McAndrew said.
“They weren’t wearing the proper formal mourning attire, so they had to quickly go and get changed – I guess, do hair and makeup for Meghan. So that’s why they were late.”
She also said that the appearance was “very much the King’s desire” as Charles “wanted to see the boys together because of course it was overshadowing the beginning of his reign.”
This comes after Richard Kay of the Daily Mail reported that the walkabout had originally been scheduled for 4:30 pm but it was delayed by 45 minutes as William and Harry communicated with each other.
