Actor Gene Hackman and his wife’s causes of death are being revealed.
The actor and his wife were found dead at their mansion, and many were waiting for the autopsy reports to determine what exactly killed them.
Now, it has been confirmed from the medical examiner’s office that Hackman passed away from heart failure while his partner died from a virus she got from rodent feces.
The medical examiner from New Mexico shared the news that had fans shocked as they were not expecting this.
The two-time Academy Award-winning star is said to have passed away on February 18 as that’s when his last pacemaker activity was recorded.
Dr. Heather Jarrell shared more on the matter as she examined the star’s case and confirmed that it was due to hypertension and atherosclerotic cardiac disease.
The autopsy showed how Hackman also had an advanced stage of Alzheimer’s disease that seriously contributed to his death.
Meanwhile, his wife is believed to have passed away first. She was last known to be alive on February 11. The virus that killed her was identified as Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which is caused by contact with rodents such as rats and mice.
It usually spreads through rodents’ urine, saliva, and droppings as per the CDC. Usual symptoms of the illness include fever, chills, cough, and headaches.
It was shared how her body was inside the house for a week while Hackman was there until his death nearly one week after that. Because Hackman had Alzheimer’s, he might not have known that his wife was dead. The report concludes that no evidence of any internal or external trauma was seen and therefore foul play was ruled out.
