Mexico is suing Google for paying zero attention to several requests that it had generated about not renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its Maps services.
The country’s head of state seems like she’s had enough of complaining and she’s not resorting to legal action to settle the matter once and for all.
The Mexican president didn’t say where exactly that legal case was filed. However, Google didn’t respond to the BBC’s request for a comment.
The Republican-led House of Representatives voted to officially rename the Gulf for federal agencies.
The American president signed an executive order on his first day in office in January and called for the body of water to be renamed again.
They argued that the change was justified because the US does most of the work there and that it belonged to them.
The government of Mexico contends that the order of Trump applies only to the US portion of the continental shelf.
‘All we want is for the decree issued by the US government to be compelled with’- she clarified and asserted how the US lacks the authority to rename the whole gulf region.
At the time, Google shared how it was making the change as part of its longstanding practice of following name changes when updated by the usual government sources.
