Flights at several major airports from New York to Washington, DC were stopped from functioning as normal, resulting in absolute travel chaos and a nightmare for thousands located along the East Coast.
The FAA shared how they rolled out a ground stop at the JFK airport during the afternoon hours when severe thunderstorms struck the area.
The ground stop also impacted the Philadelphia and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, but the alert slowly spread to other leading facilities along the Eastern Coast.
These ground stops were said to last only till the evening hours of yesterday, but the results included a domino effect in departure traffic, which sent waiting times spiraling out of control.
Some of these airports wait for more than two hours to take off. Overall, it was a miserable time for tourists regarding their air travel as more than 5700 flights out and in of the US were delayed, and that disrupted hundreds of thousands of travelers scheduled.
The new update from the FAA shared how the departure delays at JFK were early by two hours and 35 minutes, and that rose as the storm continued to get closer. Some flights in Washington were delayed until 5 pm, and the flights in Philadelphia were said to be stuck until evening hours.
