A 9-year-old girl who was away in the incident at Hersheypark water park in Pennsylvania last week has now been identified.
On Monday, the young victim was reportedly identified as Sophia Subedi by the spokesperson from the Bhutanese Community in Harrisburg, as per reports from NBC affiliate WGAL.
The victim was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved with her loved ones to Harrisburg in the year 2022. She only recently finished her third grade at the North Side Elementary School.
Her parents shared how she was so excited to enter fourth grade, but nobody knew that this would be her fate. The family says the sudden loss has left the entire community in a state of grief.
The child was said to be visiting the Boardwalk at Hersheypark on Thursday when she became very distressed inside the water. The incident took place at the wave pool where there were 10 dedicated lifeguards working on duty.
Despite that, many cannot even begin to imagine how she still ended up dying inside the water, as horrified bystanders noticed that she was pulled out of the pool in a limp state and was unresponsive.
