Imane Khelif was recently outlined in a post by the World Boxing where they announced that they would be carrying out mandatory gender testing.
The governing body has since then issued a new apology to the star who hails from Algeria for singling her out.
They called it a blunder where the gold medalist was named in the controversial announcement that spoke about how all athletes would need to undergo gender testing as a mandatory requirement to participate.
In another statement that was shared in the past, the governing body disclosed that Khelif would need to undergo gender testing to take part in any women’s events that they organized or sanctioned.
The esteemed welterweight gold medalist from the previous year’s Olympic Games in Paris found her name at the center of the heated debate after the World Boxing Council suggested she might not be able to compete at the Eindhoven Box Cup this month.
This is without completing all the necessary tests. The news comes despite Khelif being given a green light to take part in the Olympics last year, despite a previous disqualification from the 2o23 World Championships. That was held by the International Boxing Association over gender eligibility queries.
