Donald Trump has threatened that all female Olympians at the LA 2028 Games might undergo a one-time gender test before they are eligible to compete.
The last Olympics in France were overshadowed by so many controversies linked to Algeria’s welterweight boxer, Imane Khelif, and Taiwan’s featherweight fighter, Lin Yu-ting.
The pair had both won gold medals in their respective weight classes amid a flurry of knockdowns. But also during those games, it emerged how they were disqualified from the 2023 Women’s World Championships in India by the former world governing body, the IBA, who said they failed to pass their gender eligibility tests.
In a statement issued by the IBA, the boxers did not undergo any kind of testosterone examination but were subject to a separate and recognized test whereby the specifics were not revealed to the public.
They confirmed that the test indicated that neither athlete didn’t met the necessary eligibility criteria and were found to have competitive advantages over their competitors.
The duo was cleared to box inside the French capital by the International Olympic Committee, which stripped the IBA of its powers and status in June of 2023. This is right after concerns linked to its governance were shared.
