The captain of the tragic Air India flight reportedly stayed calm before cutting off fuel to both engines, seconds after the plane took off, officials in the US have now confirmed.
Captain Sumeet flipped the plane’s fuel control switches to the position of ‘cut-off’ moments after it lifted off from the Indian city of Ahmedabad on July 12.
American officials mentioned, after the preliminary crash investigation, while speaking to the Wall Street Journal, that the black box recording showcased a tense conversation from the cockpit at the time.
That is when the fire officer Clive asked him in a panic state Why did you cut off?- to this the Captain replied I did not! This entire time, many cannot help but mention how his calmness was so eerie, as this was a life and death situation and a moment of great panic, which couldn’t be sensed from the recordings.
The plane then started to lose height before ramming into a hospital accommodation block 30 seconds after it took off.
260 people were killed in that crash, including all but one person onboard and several of them on the ground. Only one person who was a British national is believed to have survived.
