A tourist from Brazil was trapped for days when she plunged off a cliff near an active volcano.
The incident arose in Indonesia after the traveler was found dead on Tuesday, after frantic efforts to save her were thwarted by poor weather.
Juliana Marins was hiking with her group of friends on Mount Rinjani, which is a popular tourist destination in the Southeast Asian archipelago, when she slipped and fell nearly 490 feet down the cliff face during the morning hours of Saturday.
As per authorities in Indonesia, the vacationer slipped nearly 1600 feet. At the start, screams for help from Marins were heard from a distance, and drone footage displayed her to be still alive after her first fall. But rescue crews were unable to reach her due to thick fog engulfing the volcano and other serious conditions.
Furthermore, visibility issues really made her rescue operation all the more difficult, as per reports from local media outlets. Now, her loved ones are mourning her sudden loss as others fear for those choosing to travel to the area despite the threat of the volcano being at large.
