Massive fire at major airport with all flights suspended after horror blaze


On Saturday afternoon, a huge fire erupted inside a cargo village section of Dhaka’s International Airport.

The giant blaze broke out near Gate 8 and swiftly engulfed large storage zones used for imported goods, fabrics, chemicals, and different materials.

As thick smoke billowed across the airport region, authorities ended up suspending all flight operations including both landings and departures.

Emergency services fought the fire with more than 30 active fire units. This together with the army, navy, and air force worked round the clock to get the blaze under control. After a timespand of six hours, operations started to resume with the first flight departing at about 9 pm local time.

The disruption included delayed and diverted flights to different airports such as Chattogram and Sylhet. The cause of this blaze is still under investigation, and the incident is said to pose a serious source of concern for airport safety and the wider cargo/logistics sector in Bangladesh.

Terrifying pictures showed the huge extent of the fire with massive smoke engulfing the sky as crews struggled to battle with it. The fire began at about 2:30 pm near Gate number 8 of the airport’s cargo village, swiftly spreading through a huge area storing imported goods.
