The remains of five skiers were found near Switzerland’s luxury resort of Zermatt.
The emergency services were reportedly alerted a day before to some abandoned skis at an altitude of nearly 4000 meters in the Rimpfischorn mountain region, as per the Prosecutor’s office.
Rescue workers found the remains near the Adlergletscher glacier, after air and ground searches began in the region in the southwestern part of Switzerland, where it shares the southern border with Italy.
One local airline Air Zermatt, mentioned how three of the remains that were located were found on the debris of an avalanche a few hundred meters below where the skis were found. The other two were found in the upper parts of the mountain.
The airplanes are usually deployed for search missions and other kinds of emergencies that could track down such missing climbers or skiers.
As of right now, the identities of the five victims have not been confirmed as an investigation is currently taking place.
Weather conditions and the avalanche activity in this part of the world were being considered as part of the probe.
