The Miss Universe Pageant has recently been thrown into a massive controversy after an on-stage confrontation involving executive Nawat Itsaragrisil.
During the pre-pageant sash ceremony livestream, he publicly embarrassed Miss Mexico, accusing her of refusing to participate in a required sponsorship deal or social media shoot. He reportedly interrupted her response and called her a dumbhead, and directed security to have her removed from the room.
The incident sparked major backlash across the board. As a result, more than a dozen contestants, including the current reigning Miss Universe, chose to walk out of the event in solidarity with the contestant.
Miss Universe Organization President publicly condemned the matter and called out the executive’s behavior as humiliating on a different level. He also said it was a clear violation of the pageant’s values of respect and dignity for women, adding that he would never allow the values of respect and dignity towards women to be violated on this platform.
Therefore, he issued a statement about how the mentioned executive would now be eliminated, and the sash presentation during which this incident took place would be postponed until further notice.
The executive was later seen apologizing for the matter during a press conference through various social media streams. He said that he did not wish to harm anybody and that he’s only human, crying during the emotional moment.
