A father-of-two who made headlines after abandoning his family to stay with a Ukrainian refugee he’d known for just ten days has spoken out.
29-year-old Tony Garnett fell head over heels for 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym after he and his partner of ten years, Lorna, welcomed the young Ukrainian refugee into their home.
Just ten days after Tony first saw Sofiia, the pair eloped and left the home, leaving Lorna and Tony’s two young daughters behind with the girls’ mother.
Now, the 29-year-old security guard from Britain spoke out and revealed he wants to get married to Sofiia and start a family with her.
“I want to propose to this beautiful lady,” he told MailOnline as he expressed his hopes to have his vasectomy reversed so that he can have children with Sofiia.
“We are planning our life together. I want to be a mother. I want to have children,” the 22-year-old Ukrainian added.
“I am a young woman so it can wait a few years and I hope that Tony can have his vasectomy reversed so that we can become a family together.”
Speaking of his new-found love, Tony went on to suggest that at least “something really good for me and her” came out of “Putin’s evil” in a reference to the Russian dictator’s invasion of Ukraine.
“The reaction to us being a couple has just been mad! I picked up 5,000 Instagram followers yesterday and she got 7,000 for no reason at all. People are fascinated with us,” he added of his sudden social media fame.
As the young man admitted, however, not all comments they receive are positive.
“We’ve had some quite horrible stuff posted about us on Instagram and other social media,” he continued.
“But these people are just morons and cannot understand how people can fall in love even if it is only been a short time that they’ve known each other.”
Striking back at critics, including her own family, was also Sofiia who suggested she’s not a homewrecker because she “innocently fell in love and this is a permanent thing” and because Tony and Lorna were not married.
