President Donald Trump just signed an executive order on Friday to offer fast-track Gold Card visas to those willing to pay a staggering amount of $1 million or more.
The government website read: ‘The Trump Gold Card is here!’- and that featured a mock-up of a bright gilded card that came embossed with an image of Mr. Trump, his signature, and pictures of a bald eagle and the Statue of Liberty. The card says ‘unlock life in America’.
Under the latest Gold Card program, which Mr. Trump first floated in the month of February, non-Americans who gave a gift of nearly $1 million to the Commerce Department would be eligible for the expedited process to get the immigrant visa, the executive order added.
Corporations can sponsor people for Gold Cards if they provide the government with a minimum sum of $2 million. Some 80,000 Gold Cards would be made available, according to the Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who explained that this program is still in the implementation phase.
Now this news has not received much love from the masses, especially after it comes after Trump chose to hike the visa fee cost for immigrants from just $1500 to a staggering value of $100,000.
This has led to widespread chaos around the globe as employers will now be forced to pay this fee every year. However, the administration has made it clear that this would not impact those who are already employed, as it’s for new immigrants only. Still, the huge price hike means only those who can afford it can enter the US to offer their skill set.
