The tragic last text messages of the family that died after getting stranded in scorching heat have been revealed.
45-year-old Jonathan Gerrish and 31-year-old Ellen Chung were found dead alongside their baby daughter on the Savage Lundy Trail in California after succumbing to the scorching heat during their hike.
According to the reports, the family was found some 1.6 miles away from their parked car, whereas they succumbed to temperatures reaching 109F after being stranded on the trail with no water last August.
Now, the parents’ tragic last texts have been revealed.
“Can you help us,” parents Jonathan and Ellen wrote in a message to an unnamed person. They added: “No water or ver [over] heating with baby.”
Sadly, the texts discovered on the couple’s phone never reached the recipient due to poor mobile service in the area. The family also attempted to make five phone calls without success.
“Sadly, I believe they were caught off guard, and once they realized their situation, they died trying to save their child and each other,” a survival trainer who was involved in the heartbreaking case revealed.
“It is likely the child began to succumb first, which hurried the parents’ efforts up the hill. When one could no longer continue, they stayed behind to care for the child and pet, while the other tried to forge on and get help for their loved ones. It is a tragedy of the highest order.”
Following the tragic incident, the family’s loved ones thanked the investigators for working hard to provide them with answers.
“Some questions have been answered, and we will use this to help us come to terms with this. They will remain with us wherever we go, or whatever we do,” they expressed.
“In the future when we sit beneath the trees, hearing the wind soar beneath the branches, we will think of them and we will remember.”
