A vegetarian plane passenger reportedly choked to his death after he was told to eat around meat that was wrongly served to him as part of his in-flight meal, it’s revealed.
Cardiologist Asoka Jayaweera had been flying Qatar Airways from LA to Sri Lanka when he was allegedly denied his vegetarian meal he had ordered. He later passed away after choking on a piece of food while trying to eat around the meat in the meal that he was given; instead, his grieving loved ones shared.
The pilot could not make the emergency landing to get Mr Jayaweera to attain medical assistance because the plane was traveling over the Arctic Circle when it crashed in a newly filed wrongful death lawsuit filed by The Independent.
However, his son Surya mentioned how the plane was actually over the Midwest at the time and could have been diverted easily, the complaint added.
When the flight touched down in Edinburgh in Scotland, the passenger, who was a strict vegetarian, was said to be unconscious for a good three and a half hours, as per the complaint.
It added more details about how he was rushed to the hospital upon landing, but it was already too late. Roughly two and a half hours into the long-haul flight, the onboard meal service began. The passenger was told that there were no vegetarian meals left, and they could only offer him a regular meal, to which he agreed. He was then instructed to eat ‘around the meat’. No details were shared on which part of the meal he choked on.
