The Emmy Awards are reportedly facing quite a bit of backlash recently after granting the award for best actress to a non-binary leading personality, Bella Ramsey.
Sources from local media outlets claim that this has never happened in the history of the awards and therefore, this is the main reason that it was met with plenty of skepticism.
Major backlash for the Emmy Awards has not gone unnoticed by plenty of people. Seeing a top performer be called out for being non-binary and illegible to attain the accolade for her breakthrough performance is not something that the Awards feel is correct.
They did issue a statement on the matter including how this behavior was just not okay for obvious reasons. “We can do so much better as a fraternity that’s open to accepting diversity. It’s a world with all kinds of people and we need to remember that”- the statement went on to mention.
While some people felt that the news was beyond shocking, others took to their accounts on Twitter to share more about this ordeal. And that includes how it’s high time that big Award Shows started to have more inclusive categories for individuals with gender-expansive titles.
“I thought Bella was non-binary. How can she be included in this? How is that even fair on the part of others?”- these were the types of questions coming forward.
Even the star has spoken out against the backlash and how uncomfortable they felt about the news. They added how it was not fair how they were being treated and that their performance should be the judge of whether or not they attain an award and not which category they fit in society.
Some activists and names in the industry also agreed that non-binary individuals should have separate categories as it just makes it so unfair to women who are already dominated by men most of the time. And seeing a non-binary name pop up in the female category just reduces the chance even further. What do you think?
The whole gender swap thing is sick and sad. Men overtaking women’s spaces, women’s awards, women’s achievements simply because they wish to “identify” as a woman should not be respected or pandered to. What is worse than these individual’s selfish ambition is how the media and Hollywood at large are afraid to say anything to protect real women, forget the #metoo movement, this epidemic clearly shows Hollywood only pays lip service to protecting women.
Ras, non-binary or gender fluid isn’t transgender. Bella isn’t genetically male, so your whole problem with the issue doesn’t exist. Grow up.
