Elon Musk blasted Twitter’s decision to ban Former President Donald Trump from the platform for life.
With his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter well in progress, the Tesla founder and billionaire Elon Musk suggested that the 45th US President could be reinstated once he completely takes over the social media platform.
During a virtual conference, the SpaceX founder and CEO slammed Twitter’s decision to indefinitely ban Trump after his repeated allegations of rigged elections and the January 6 chaos at the Capitol Building.
“I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump,” Musk said as he addressed the former president’s ban directly for the first time since his $44 billion takeover deal.
“It alienated a large part of the country, and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice. He is now going to be on Truth Social.
“So I think this may end up being frankly worse than having a single forum where everyone can debate. I guess the answer is that I would reverse the permanent ban.”
The billionaire added that permanent bans should only be reserved for spam and scam accounts and bots.
“He [Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey] and I are of the same mind, which is that permanent bans should be extremely rare, and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or spam/scam accounts,” Musk added.
“I would reverse the permaban [of Trump]. Obviously, I don’t own Twitter yet, so this is not something that will definitely happen.”
While Musk promised to shake Twitter up once he is in control, Trump previously insisted he wouldn’t return to the platform even if he was invited. He has since launched his own social media platform called Truth Social.
