Elon Musk has promised significant changes as he took over the title of Twitter’s largest shareholder.
After joining the company’s board by securing a 9.2% stake and making himself the platform’s biggest stakeholder, Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised to make “significant improvements.”
Amid speculations that the billionaire might try to tackle the social media platform’s alleged “failure to adhere to free speech principles,” Twitter shares in premarket trading rose over a staggering 7%.
“Looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months!” Musk announced on April 5.
Following the big reveal, Trump supporters began pleading with the defendant of free speech, who publicly decried Twitter’s content-moderation rules, to reinstate the former president’s account.
“Now that @ElonMusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, it’s time to lift the political censorship. Oh… and BRING BACK TRUMP!” Rep. Lauren Boebert wrote.
America First candidate Errol Webber added: “Time to get this platform back to its former glory. Step one – bring back President Trump! Step two – give everyone who has been banned a second chance. Step three – end all forms of political and other censorship.”
While the billionaire immediately made promises of significant changes, it remains unclear whether his ‘passive’ stake in the company will be enough for him to influence Twitter’s policies and rules.
As Bloomberg suggested, Elon will likely have to take on a more active role in the company should he wish to directly influence the company’s operations.
