At least one person was killed after a huge earthquake rocked the Turkish nation this morning.
The natural disaster hit 5.8 on the Richter scale, striking the popular resort town of Marmaris and shaking hotels while forcing people to get evacuated from their hotel rooms as they waited for possible aftershocks.
Tourists from different countries were seen describing the horror that unfolded before their eyes including how petrified they were to experience these shock tremors. Some even reported being thrown from their beds by the mega force of the earthquake.
The aftermath was so powerful that the shockwaves were felt in Greece, and people were awoken from their sleep on the island of Rhodes, and holidaymakers at some hotels were also informed to evacuate immediately.
Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency shared how it began in the Mediterranean Sea at 2:17 am.
A 16-year-old girl is said to have passed away from a panic attack, and dozens more were injured in the Mugla province while trying to rush to find safety. Some even jumped from a huge height, as shared by the country’s interior ministry. Video footage of the moment from when the earthquake struck showed people running out of cafes and hotels into the street with great fear and panic in the air.
