A tragic incident took place in Arkansas when a 31-year-old mom named Courtney Marie Newsom left her two kids in a bathtub unsupervised.
The 14-month-old son, Brady Newsom, drowned after the mother stepped away to text her own mother. Although she initially mentioned that she was gone 60 to 90 seconds, later she admitted she was away about 14 minutes, texting and losing track of time.
Responding officers found her carrying out CPR on the boy, and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital in Memphis. She was later arrested and charged with homicide-manslaughter, reckless death, and two counts of third degree endangering the welfare of the minor. She also shared a $15,000 bond.
Many shared how a brief lapse in the supervision period around water is what gave rise to this tragedy and leaving a child inside a bathtub full of water is terrifying, to say the least.
‘This always leads to devastating consequences’- the paramedics mentioned. They also shared how it serves as a sobering reminder of the crucial significance of direct and constant adult supervision when young kids are in any kind of water.
