Portugal does have what it takes to go all the way and win the World Cup in Qatar this year but must drop Cristiano Ronaldo, confirmed a leading sports critic.
The news comes as the team lost against South Korea yesterday, where many held high expectations that Ronaldo would save the day. However, he failed to make any major impact, causing many to enter into a frenzy for obvious reasons.
As it is, the striker was said to have been caught in the middle of a controversy where he was outlined for not taking part in any team training sessions. Instead, he was seen working out alone at the gym.
A point had even come where the team’s coach had no clue whether or not the player was actually going to participate or not.
Others feel the baton has been passed and it’s time for Ronaldo to be removed. And that means dropping the star player who has gone all the way to Qatar to participate.
Ronaldo has been making plenty of headlines ever since he opted to turn on his own management at the star premiere club of Manchester United. He opted to take a step back and was then asked to leave, joining another Saudi club for a value that was so much higher. And that’s when a lot of people began to question him and his integrity of the game.
Yesterday, Fernando Santos’ side finished at the top of the list on Friday but they were beaten by South Korea. Many felt it was all Ronaldo’s fault for the first goal that his team conceded in their 2-1 loss.
Many believe the 37-year-old is no longer enough of a powerful force for his team and must pass the baton to the younger generation if they wish to see Portugal pick up the trophy this year.
