Late on Saturday night in Maryland, a driver ended up crashing their car into an outdoor birthday party which was organized for young kids to attend.
The party was well underway with all guests in attendance when the crash took place under a tent in front of the house. This resulted in an instant death of one women while 14 others were said to have sustained injuries. The victim was identified as Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez who was a resident of Washington DC.
The incident was ruled a fatal hit and run by the local cops.
Authorities mentioned how the driver was a 66 year old who later turned himself into the cops. Among the children included eight kids and five adults. Many of those injured were treated and soon released. Several remain hospitalized in stable condition. The crash arose at about 10 pm while the party attendees were gathered outdoors under a tent.
The vehicle is believed to have driven into the group and then the driver fled on foot before surrendering. Investigators are now working with prosecutors to determine criminal charges linked to this case.
