Dr Phil’s daytime talk show is coming to an end after an astounding 21 seasons.

Announcing the decision was the 72-year-old TV host and former clinical psychologist Phil McGraw who revealed that the show will no longer be produced after season 21.

According to CBS sources, the decision to call it an end was made by Dr. Phil himself rather than the television network, Variety reported.

As for the main reason for his decision, McGraw suggested his eyes were set on “strategic primetime partnership” through which he aims to “increase his impact on television and viewers.”

Despite the decision, Dr. Phil, who gained his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2020, allegedly plans to finish the 2022-2023 season, whereas CBS might choose to rerun the show in the future.

“I have been blessed with over 25 wonderful years in daytime television. With this show, we have helped thousands of guests and millions of viewers through everything from addiction and marriage to mental wellness and raising children,” McGraw said in a statement.

“This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career, but while I’m moving on from daytime, there is so much more I wish to do.”

He continued: “I am compelled to engage with a broader audience because I have grave concerns for the American family, and I am determined to help restore a clarity of purpose as well as our core values.”

While details about Phil’s upcoming project remain shrouded in mystery, it is believed that the project could sprout roots as early as the next year.
