At least 26 people were killed and dozens were injured after a bus rolled down an embankment.
According to reports from local media outlets, a passenger bus overturned in Afghanistan’s capital early Wednesday, killing at least 26 people, according to an official.
The incident took place during the early morning hours in the Arghandi area of Kabul. The bus was believed to be coming from southern Afghanistan with passengers from Helmand and Kandahar.
Reckless driving is believed to be the reason behind the incident, which also injured 27 people as per the Interior Ministry spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani.
The crash reportedly occurred at 3 am. The bus was said to be of the model 580 and reportedly steered off the road and down an embankment. It was said to be on its way from Kandahar to the capital city when the crash occurred.
Officials and witnesses were on hand to assist in pulling out the bodies from the wreck and take all of those injured to the hospital to receive treatment. Many of those who managed to survive are believed to be in a critical state at this moment in time. Horrific photos from the scene showed the extent of damage that was inflicted on the bus.
