About three dozen people were dead after the boat capsized, as per reports from several media outlets.
At least 34 people lost their lives, including eight children, when the ship overturned in Vietnam’s Halong Bay amid strong stormy weather at about 2 pm local time on Saturday.
The boat dubbed Wonder Sea was said to be carrying 48 passengers and five crew members. A majority of the travelers on this boat, including the estimated 20 kids on board, were from Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi, as shared by VNExpress and the AP.
So far, 11 people have been rescued after they were found near the scene of the incident, while others remain missing, as per the outlets. One of the individuals rescued included a 10-year-old boy who happened to be unconscious at the time and was admitted to a nearby hospital with severe injuries, as per VNExpress.
A 14-year-old boy was also rescued by first responders after he got trapped in the overturned hull of this boat. Sources revealed how the ship had overturned, and the cabin doors were locked, but there still happened to be an air pocket. That was enough for oxygen to get in.
That is how the boy survived. The boat underwent the tragedy of capsizing due to heavy winds. Lightning and heavy rain were also reported in the area, as per Reuters.
