Leading cosmetics brand Dove is blasting the makers of the hit film ‘The Whale’ for making use of a fat suit instead of an actual obese actor to play the leading role.
Dove did not shy away from expressing how it really felt about the ordeal, leaving fans and critics in a state of absolute shock and disbelief.
While the movie may have received its fair share of accolades so far, Dove is not impressed and feels the movie could have made use of real people to portray such a strong message.
But instead, they took the easy way out and opted to use a fat suit on a man like Brandon Fraser. He ended up winning the award for best actor but still, they’re not impressed.
Stop giving fat suit awards, we want better representation in the world of Hollywood- this was a post that was promoted on Twitter by the brand after the Oscar awards.
But even though Dove is jumping on the bandwagon of hating this film, people can’t help but talk about how ridiculous Dove is behaving, not to mention childish.
However, some felt it was offensive to give the award of best makeup artist to the makers of the film in terms of designing the fatsuit.
“I don’t appreciate how the makers behind the construction of a fat suit just ended up getting an Oscar. How is this even allowed? We really need to get better stories of fat people with actual obese people and skinny people who are using props to appear a certain way”- the social media user went on to add.
Another netizen felt that the time had come to get over the fat suit as the real message was far beyond just that. “It’s about being aware of what is taking place and how much fat people struggle”- the woman who overcame obesity continued to explain.
