When it comes to maternity leaves and not enough of them, the subject is truly a nightmare in the US.
Believe it or not, paid time off is never mandatory and so many firms end up getting away with giving so little time off at all after the child’s birth. But in comparison to other nations around the globe, the US certainly comes in last place in terms of policies that are designed to make women and their families’ lives easier.
Keeping that thought in mind, we come to this next story about a working woman who says she was blindsided by a very bizarre demand by her office colleagues. And when she refused to pay heed, she was bashed as inconsiderate and selfish.
According to her, the management asked her to give up or donate some of her vacation days to help accommodate a pregnant lady in the office. And when she refused, she was beyond baffled at the way her enraged colleagues behaved.
They all refused to speak to her, adding how she was not like the rest of them who had bigger hearts. But the woman argued how it’s every man for themselves and she was not responsible for taking care of anyone else’s problems at the cost of her holidays.
“As it is we hardly get the chance to take time off. And now, seeing and hearing about something like this is baffling”- she continued. “I told them thanks for the offer but I’d like to pass on it”- she further revealed.
For her, vacation was something that she felt she deserved and it was hard-earned. To let that go to accommodate someone else’s baby delivery was not something she was looking forward to one bit.
“Why me? It just does not make sense. How am I being selfish? It’s not wrong to put myself first because I work so hard!”- she added.
