Thanksgiving is that festive time of year when families get together and start to count their blessings.

But the reality of the matter is that the current rise in inflation is leaving many people with some choices that are hard for others to understand. Think along the lines of making guests pay for sit-down meals that were once offered for free.

One 22-year-old nephew has started a new debate online regarding Thanksgiving. He says that his family always has the great pleasure of attending dinners on this special occasion. But this year, he was dumbfounded to learn that his aunt did invite him but there was a special clause attached. And that meant paying for your meal.

At first, he assumed that it was a joke because he had never in his wildest imagination thought of this. But when he called to confirm his spot, his aunt reminded him again of how he would be paying for the holiday meal.

While he did listen to her justification of how everything has become so expensive and that inflation has gotten the better of her, he was appalled at the level she was charging. Yes, it did not come cheap by any means.

Since it was a family text on the social media group, he couldn’t even argue as it would be deemed disrespectful but deep down inside, he knew this was not right.

“She asked everyone to splurge 30 dollars per head in the name of contribution for our family dinner. I was taken aback. What in heavens sake was going on?”- he mentioned.

The nephew had questions so he confronted his aunt and she said there was very little that she could do about this right now. Those below the age of 12 were free so that meant the adults had to cover their expenses as well.

When he put forward some options that seemed better for all like a potluck, his suggestions were shot down and now, he’s rethinking about going in the first place.
