Johnny Depp will no longer return as Jack Sparrow in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film as Disney finds a new replacement.
Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that the famous actor will not be included in the scripts that are being worked on for the new movie.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Bruckheimer said they are working on two scripts for the new Pirates of the Caribbean film, with one featuring Margot Robbie.
The producer said: “Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.”
Depp is currently suing his ex-wife Amber Heard over a 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post.
The claim led to the actor being blacklisted by Hollywood. He has also been kept away from numerous potential roles, including the Fantastic Beasts films.
His role of Jack Sparrow is now added to the list of work the actor has lost because of the defamation trial.
During legal proceedings, Depp said that he has no desire to reprise his role even though he has apparently never seen the movies.
Despite Depp’s lack of interest in returning, his fans are still campaigning for his comeback. Earlier this year, a petition supporting the cause gained more than 100,000 signatures.
Former co-stars have also come out to support Depp, believing he should be allowed to reprise the role.
It is not clear how Margot Robbie will reignite the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise but it seems she will play a Jack Sparrow-like character.
Fans had mixed reactions about the prospects of Robbie directing a Pirates movie. While others support the idea, others claimed that the franchise could not continue without Depp as the main character.
