Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has reportedly slammed the former NYPD commissioner for showing insensitivity with his tweet about homeless people.
The Democratic Socialist Rep was quick to raise her voice for the ‘defund the police’ movement as a means for covering up the costs of shelters for homeless people in New York.
AOC jumped on the tweet that went viral this week where Bill Bratton shared an image of homeless people sleeping on a subway train in New York City. He captioned the image with, “You know why New York’s recovery isn’t happening? This image taken today on the E Train explains just that,” he added on Wednesday.
In addition to that, other controversial words were stated by the ex-NYPD commissioner which included ‘why should working people and tourists be subjected to all of this? How is it fair to all of those that need services? You can only imagine the level of frustration with no support to deal with,” he went on to mention in his controversial Tweet.point 414 | 1
But that did not settle too well with the Democratic Representative who felt it was highly uncalled for, labeling it as an extreme form of insensitivity towards homeless people.
In the same way, she and many others belonging to the left-hand party were quick to share how much of the city’s budget was being consumed by the Police, stressing how it was high time to defund the police.

And that’s when she wrote, “Of course they are frustrated.point 61 | It’s not policing’s job or their purpose to address housing, counseling, or the providence of healthcare or even provide solutions for the reasons why people sleep on subways,” she explained.point 241 | 1
She concluded by stating how if the city shifted some of the $11 billion yearly budgets to housing services then we would actually be able to get somewhere.
