The climbing partner of the double Olympic Champion, Laura Dahlmeier, who passed away this week in a tragic mountaineering accident, has broken her silence on the tragedy.
She shared how she’s made a heartbreaking decision to leave her friend behind after she was struck by a massive rock.
The former biathlete was only 31 when she was hit by a huge pile of falling rocks at an altitude of nearly 5700 meters at the Laila Peak in the Karaokaram mountains of Pakistan.
She was said to be climbing with Marina Eva Krauss, who explained to reporters during the press conference that after being hit, she had to make an agonizing choice on whether she could stay with her pal or look for help.
‘I saw Laura getting struck by a huge rock and then being thrown against the wall. And that was the moment when she didn’t move again’- the partner mentioned.
She also revealed how it was impossible for her to reach there safely. It was clear to her that the only way to assist was to call for a helicopter. She also shared the heartbreaking moment when she called out to her, but there were no signs of a response or any kind of movement.
