A major train incident has seen 11 people dead, and two hurt in what was described as one of the biggest railway disasters in China’s history.
The crash took place during the morning hours as railway workers were seen busy working on a curved section near the Luoyangzhen Station in Kunming. Reports in China stated that this was a test train involved in the incident after it hit several railway workers. The news comes as Hong Kong has been dealing with a giant building fire, in which 44 people were killed, and several are still missing.
The blaze at the Wang Fuk Court housing complex in Tai Po still has nearly 279 people missing since the blaze began yesterday.
As per the South China Morning Post, this incident in Kunming mentioned how Test Train Number 55537 is used for seismic equipment testing, which was used during the time of the rail incident.
The railway line and station were closed off to the public, but have since reopened up again following emergency services leaving the scene.
There is yet to be any update on this front of the two workers who were hospitalized. All that is known so far is that the train collided with construction workers entering the tracks while it was passing a curve within Kunming, giving rise to 11 deaths and 2 injuries.
