A father is expressing his sheer dismay and outrage after his son was reportedly isolated in school for his unique hairstyle.
The dad who was identified as James Cullen revealed how his son was treated unfairly at the educational institution because he was a male. Moreover, the father claims that if he was a girl, things would have been very different and he would never have been punished in this way.
After his Easter break, James says he returned back to his school with a brand new haircut. But the response he got from the administration was far from what he or his parents were expecting.
The haircut is said to comprise blonde highlights with some parts that were shaven down to a grade one.
After just two hours, the school felt that he should be dealt with strictly as it went against their policies and dress code. Therefore, they decided to punish him by placing him in isolation to teach him a lesson.
The incident was reportedly said to have taken place at Surrey’s St. Andrew’s Catholic School. But now, the administration is being called out as the punishment was too harsh.
“I received a call from the school shortly after I dropped my son. They said that his hairstyle was unacceptable and that’s why he would now be sitting in detention. They also told me he had to be separated during his free periods and the break sessions for all of the remaining days of the week”- the dad explained.
But he felt that was too much for him to handle and that’s when he requested the administration for a meeting with the school staff.
The dad tried to justify his son’s hairstyle by saying he saw plenty of girls in the same school with similar colored highlights and they were allowed to roam around freely. And that’s why he believes the school is biased against his son, only because he’s a boy.
And if that wasn’t enough to make the dad furious, he was also told that the only solution out of the mess was to force his son to shave his head or else he’d be sitting in isolation.
