Harvard Medical School has decided to postpone a virtual continuing education course titled Advancing Excellence in Transgender Health: A Core Course for the Whole Care Team.
This is moments after it faced serious legal scrutinya across the board for its fee waiver policy. This course was created in partnership with The Fenway Institut and credit accredited. Sources shared how it came at $650 and aimed at healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, psychologists, pharamcists, and social workers.
Their goal was to improve care for the trans and gender diverse community patients of all ages.
The controversy centers on the fact that the HMS offered free enrollment for the trans and gender diverse doctors, while the rest of the medical professionals had to pay the full price, which many dubbed as unfair.
Critics raised serious health concerns that this differential pricing was solely based on gender identity and might end up violating the US federal civil rights laws.
Therefore, Harvard Medical School states that it’s full committed to making sure the courses that they accredit comply with all kinds of applicable laws. As per the report, the waiver spots had already been claimed and additional applicants were put on a waitlist before the postponement.
