The hero New York Police Department cop who was shot and killed in yesterday’s horrific mass shooting has been identified.
According to reports from local media outlets, Officer Didarul Islam was only 36 and was said to be working on his second private job in security while his wife was at home expecting his third child.
Sources shared how he was shot in the back and killed by a gunman carrying a giant M4 assault rifle near a midtown Manhattan office building that houses Blackstone asset management and the NFL on Monday. Five people were declared dead, including him.
More details shared included how he has been an officer since December of 2021 and is the dad of two young boys. His wife is eight months pregnant and is expecting the couple’s third child.
More details, including how he was on duty at his second job for the Rudin Management firm on Monday, despite being in his NYPD uniform. He usually worked in the Bronx 47th precinct.
Tributes were seen pouring in for the slain officer on Monday night, including from former NYPD officer and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in a press conference.
He was doing what he does best, as all other members of the police department carry out similar roles of saving lives, the mayor shared.
‘He was protecting New Yorkers. He’s an immigrant from Bangladesh, and he adores this city. Everyone we spoke to stated he was a person of faith and a person who worked for the city and lived the life of a godly person’- the mayor continued.
