Former FBI director James Comey has pleaded not guilty in a US federal court.
According to reports from local media outlets, this has to do with charges of making false statements to Congress and obstruction of justice, which he pleaded not guilty to.
This was the first court appearance for the former FBI director, who continues to repeat time and time again that he is innocent.
Comey was indicted last month, a few days after President Trump’s post was shared on social media, and they pushed for Attorney General Pam Bondi to take action against him.
This sparked a fierce political debate on the Democrats’ side, and some legal experts accused Trump of using the Department of Justice to seek out retribution on his enemies.
Trump fired Comey during his first presidential term and the two were reportedly said to have clashed on other things since then as well. Now, experts fear that it might turn out that President Trump and his actions as president are on trial in this case as much as Comey.
Today, we heard James Comey who is the former head of the FBI formally deny lying under oath about if he had previously leaked data to the media about an investigation he was overseeing at the time.
