The second stop on Trump’s crime crackdown list is Memphis, Tennessee.
The US President shared how he would be fixing the southern city after many speculated that his next target would be a city in a Democratic state like Chicago, Illinois, Maryland, or Baltimore, but the president did hint at how Chicago might be next.
We are going to Memphis and this city is deeply troubled and it needs our assistance, the president mentioned. ‘We are going to fix that just like we did Washington’- he shared.
The announcement comes after Trump took federal control of Washington, DC in August to stymie violent crime in the country’s capital.
The one-month federal takeover was selected because while the city has some of the worst crime in the nation, the governor was also very cooperative with the move and was more than welcoming to have the federal government assist with the crackdown in crime.
Trump added on Friday that even the mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, is happy with this decision, and there could be nothing better than that. He concluded by vowing to fix Memphis just like he did to Washington. But the decision has Americans raging as they feel it’s just a show of power and nothing else.
