Chris Rock has spoken out after getting slapped by Will Smith onstage at the Oscars, saying he ‘got his hearing back’ after the incident.
Speaking to the audience at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in California’s Coachella Valley, the comedian said, “Life is good,” newspaper the Desert Sun reported.
But he refused to talk about the incident further, saying: “I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid.”
Chris’ comments came hours after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences banned Will Smith from going to the Oscars for ten years after the slap.
But the actor was reportedly allowed to keep his best actor award for King Richard, which he received less than an hour after slapping Chris.
During the March 27 Oscars, Will stormed onstage and slapped the comedian for making a joke about his wife, who shaved her head due to alopecia.
“Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,” Chris joked.
Will was seen laughing at the joke but when Jada rolled her eyes, he ran to the stage and slapped Chris.
The actor then returned to his seat and screamed at the host: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth!”
Only less than an hour after the slap, Will received an award for the best actor Oscar and also received a standing ovation for his speech.
While he apologized to his fellow nominees and the Academy during his speech, he did not apologize to Chris until the next day.
The board of governors has decided to impose a ten-year ban, which Will accepted and respected.
