Chris Rock has partially broken his silence over the notorious Will Smith slap during his performance at Royal Albert Hall on Thursday.
The 57-year-old stand-up comedian refused to speak out about this year’s Oscars incident or condemn Hollywood star Will Smith for slapping him in the face over his GI Jane joke about Jada-Pinkett Smith.
Now, however, Rock cracked a hilarious joke related to the incident during his Ego Death comedy tour performance in London.
“I’m okay, if anyone was wondering… I got most of my hearing back,” the comedian joked in front of 5,000 fans.
He added: “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”
The audience, however, was not thrilled when Rock said he would not talk about the incident during his show.
Instead, he suggested that he will remain quiet about on-air Oscars assault until he eventually strikes a deal and gets paid to talk about it “on Netflix.”
Rock also recalled his May 5 Los Angeles show with Dave Chappelle who was tackled and attacked on stage by 23-year-old Isaiah Lee at a Hollywood Bowl show.
During the surprise show, the two comedians joked about the two unconnected physical altercations.
“I got smacked by a homeless guy with leaves in his hair,” Chappelle said.
“I got smacked by the softest n***a that ever rapped,” Rock joked in response.
While many Hollywood figures, comedians, and even family members of Rock have already publicly spoken out and condemned Will Smith, the 57-year-old has yet to issue a proper statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, Will Smith has faced plenty of challenges in the fallout of his notorious Oscars actions. The actor has since been banned from Oscars for 10 years and has seen some of his ongoing film projects halted.
